New Jersey Regulated Online Poker Goes Live
The biggest story this week is that New Jersey online poker is not live to the public. The five-day soft launch had several glitches but there were not enough issues to prevent the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement from approving internet gambling for six Atlantic City Casinos.
The casinos that received licenses and their partners are:
- Bally’s/888
- Borgata/bwin.party
- Caesars/WSOP
- Tropicana/Gamesys
- Trump Plaza/Betfair
- Trump Taj Mahal/Ucasino (Ultimate Poker)
The approved New Jersey poker sites are:
- us.888poker.com
- Betfaircasino.com
- Borgatapoker.com
- Partypokernj.com
- Ultimatepoker.com
- WSOP.com
Tropicana has yet to launch its online poker room. It currently only offers online casino games through its partner Gamesys.
Golden Nugget did not make the cut. It is still in the test period. Once approved, it will share liquidity with Betfair on the New Jersey Ongame platform.
The most common complaints about New Jersey sites include issues with the geolocation software and Visa credit card deposits.
New Jersey is trying different geolocation software than other states. Instead of cell phone triangulation, many New Jersey sites are using wi-fi positioning. This requires multiple connections to help pinpoint a player’s location. Players in rural areas or those that attempt to access online poker on a PC through a hard wire connection.
The issue with Visa deposits has also been common in Delaware and Nevada. In New Jersey, all sites are required to offer cash deposits at their Atlantic City partner’s casino cage.
